Sadly, Harry Clarke, a past bowler for St. Pauls and my
Brother-in-law's father has died. He was given a
guard-of-honour by his friends and bowlers at his funeral
today at St. Pauls. Back at the Bulls Head after the
funeral, his friend and neighbour, our resident poet David
Hawkins, told us a poem that Harry had contributed the
punch-line but he couldn't remember which of his books it
was in. I will find it and put it on SHEVIBOWLS as a
remembrance for a lovely man.
My deepest
sympathies go to all his family and friends. Chris. H.

Orrell & District Men's League introduced new rules, for the
2008 season, at their AGM last night. Page 6 Rule 19 changed
to - Matches will be decided on the aggregate score of the
10 bowlers. This was carried by a deciding vote from the
Chairman. This removes the 1 point for an individual win.
Page 8 Rule 1 changed to - The bottom 2 clubs in the 'B'
divisions of the Monday and Friday night leagues to have
their cup handicaps increased by 5 points to 50 points
start. A
new rule
which was carried last year at the 2006 AGM but not required
for the 2007 season, will be enforced in the 2008 season.
This is - Any team being demoted from the 1st division
carrying a penalty
league
handicap, should only lose 10 points from their Home
handicap (5 points Away). This means that for the 2008
season, Pemberton Cons 'A' will take a penalty
League
handicap of 20 points at Home and 10 points Away into the
Monday 2nd Division. (Their 2007 season
League
handicap was 30 points at Home and 15 points away). A new
team, Shevington Cons 'D' was welcomed into the Orrell
Friday Night League. The team to be made up from a majority
of youngsters aged between 8-15 along with their
parents/grandparents. 4 teams did not attend the AGM, Holts
Arms 'B', Newtown Cons 'C', St. Aidans 'B' and Wigan
Hospice. Chris.H.
